Be careful. Fear and trembling is not used in the context of loss of salvation through sins. The next verse reads It is he who works in you both to will and to do.

If you go back over it there is a therefore. So what's it there for? Jesus was obedient unto death. Paul is facing martyrdom. He is asking believers to be a good light for the gospel as they are being persecuted. Fear and trembling is a way of saying obey God so that your suffering gives glory to HIM.

Don't be afraid of those who are persecuting you. As you work through your martyrdom/salvation be a light. Look at the Greek word for work here. We are working out or salvation. Are we actually Achieving our salvation or is God working in us to help us endure sufferings and even being put to death for our faith as we stand firm in the gospel of grace. Do it without grumbling or complaining.
